After a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard University (USA) during the academic year 2002-2003, she started a research project on democracy in divided countries, which was funded by the Dutch National Science Foundation. Her first book Democratic Transitions: Exploring the Structural Sources of the Fourth Wave (Boulder, CO: Lynne Rienner, 2005) focused on theoretical and empirical explanations of recent transitions to democracy around the world. She is now working on a new book on the effects of democratization on e.g. conflict and war, policies to fight aids and poverty, on economic growth and political participation. In January 2006, she started as assistant professor of politics and international studies at the University of Warwick.</description><profession>Scientist / researcher</profession><thematicExpertise>Democracy</thematicExpertise><thematicExpertise>Democratization</thematicExpertise><thematicExpertise>Comparative Analysis</thematicExpertise><thematicExpertise>Research Methods</thematicExpertise><thematicExpertise>Developing Countries</thematicExpertise><thematicExpertise>Governance</thematicExpertise><mdg>Poverty</mdg><mdg>Hunger</mdg><mdg>Aids</mdg><mdg>Governance &#38; conflict</mdg><mail id="work">r.doorenspleet@warwick.ac.uk</mail><tele id="work">44 (0)24 765 22169</tele><NOD>PRS1294612</NOD><org id="OX5732424">University of Warwick	Coventry</org><degreeDiscipline><degree>PhD</degree><discipline>Political Science</discipline></degreeDiscipline></metadata></record>
