Ubink, Mr. J.M. (Janine)
Description Mr. Janine Ubink is a socio-legal scholar. She is currently finishing her PhD-thesis on customary land tenure in peri-urban Ghana, which includes chapters on tenure security; the negotiability of customary tenure; the modern relevance of traditional authorities; governmental regulation of customary land tenure; and customary land law in the Ghanaian courts. She is also involved in a project entitled 'The Mystery of Legal Failure? A Critical Comparative Examination of the Potential of Legalisation of Land Assets in Developing Countries to Achieve Real Legal Certainty', which is being undertaken in collaboration with the Universities of Amsterdam and Nijmegen and the African Studies Centre in Leiden. This project compares land tenure legalisations in Africa (Ghana, Tanzania, Senegal and Ethiopia), Latin America and Asia. Mr Ubink is also involved in the resource centre for rule of law and development, which provides courses and policy advice to Dutch diplomats in developing countries.
