Description My academic background is in the field of health sciences and nutrition with a special interest in effects of micronutrient malnutrition treatment for children. Over the years I have developed a profound interest in socioeconomic circumstances in relation to health and child welfare. In collaboration with UNICEF and the Ministry of Health in Malawi I have evaluated the clinical effectivenss of their iodine deficiency treatment programs and I have helped to develop an instrument to assess socioeconomic circumstances in a rural African setting. I am an International Fellow of Chapin Hall Center for Children at Chicago University, Chicago, USA, where I have further developed expertise on evaluating community level community initiatives to improve child welfare from a nutrition / health perspective. On behalf of the Minsitry of Welfare in Latvia I have carried out evaluations of municipal initiatives to reform social assistance services for the elderly, the disabled, orphans and poor and needy families (including single mothers) with children. Currently I am involved in research to further develop meta-analyses methodology to studying economics related public health issues. | ||
