It stands to reason then that while seeking a solution to the problem of low agricultural productivity, the women should be isolated and studied closely. This would facilitate the identification of the reasons for their low productivity and hence the discovery of the appropriate solutions. In view of the foregoing, it is the aim of this thesis to examine the contribution of rural women in Ghana to economic development with particular emphasis on agricultural productivity. The Ashanti region selected as a case study. The research methodology involved extensive and detailed interviews with individual men and women in selected villages with the characteristics of typical rural communities in Ashanti Prior to the actual survey, interviews were held with officials of the various agencies, Ministries and Departments, chiefs elders and individuals who had some interest in women's activities.
