The basic steps such as ground truthing, digitizing, transformlng, data conversion, image rectification and classification were focused on. The Tin Minning Region of the Jos Plateau was chosen to demonstrate these. SPOT XS data of 1992 was classified into eight landuse /cover types using a supervised maximum likelihood classification (MLC) method. A combination of raster-based image processing and vector-based geographical information system (GIS) mapping were used and found to be effective for understanding both spatial and spectral landuse/ cover classes. Thus, the SPOT XS data proved useful for mapping landuse/ cover classes in a dominantly rugged terrain like the Jos Plateau.</dc:description><dc:subject>Multispectral Spot Data</dc:subject><dc:language>en</dc:language><dc:publisher>Faculty of Environmental Sciences, University of Jos, Nigeria</dc:publisher><dc:relation>Volume 4;Number 1</dc:relation><dc:type>Article</dc:type><dc:identifier>1118-8936</dc:identifier></oai_dc:dc></metadata><about><provenance><originDescription harvestDate="2010-05-01T09:01:29Z"><baseURL>http://dspace.unijos.edu.ng/oai/request</baseURL><identifier>oai:dspace.unijos.edu.ng:10485/504</identifier><datestamp>2010-05-01T09:01:29Z</datestamp><metadataNamespace>http://www.openarchives.org/OAI/2.0/oai_dc/</metadataNamespace></originDescription></provenance></about></record>
