Abstract In the recent past, there has been talk about the forest as a future challenge and as a consequence of sustainable development. Regarding biodiversity in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the forest issue comes up not only as recognition for its rich and complex forest cover, but also to show that it is from these forest biological resources that the population derives its basic economic needs, notably products from gathering, hunting, construction materials, medicinal plants, firewood, wine and cola nuts, etc.
