Abstract
After a tragic and destructive war, peace is in the process of returning to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The construction of a foundation upon which economic and environmental development programs can rest, has highest priority. The deep vulnerability generated by war needs to be replaced by security that goes much further than the absence of war: it needs to hold the promise of sustainable livelihoods for the poor based on entitlements to basic resources and - according to Both ENDS - needs to be based on the careful management of the rich environmental heritage in the country. This policy note sets recommendations for sustainable forest management in the DRC. |
