Abstract
This bulletin presents current initiatives in the health sector of Mali that aim to harmonize decentralization with the sector-wide approach. Special attention is paid to the development of the notion of ownership in the community, including the elaboration of the community health plan and financially contributing to the running of the community health centre. An approach for facilitating the joint management of the health service at community level is outlined. Experience shows the potential of involving communities in the analysis of health issues. Jointly managed initiatives such as the one described are believed to be able to contribute directly to the health-related Millennium Development Goals. |
