Abstract
This is an ethnographic study of magic and healing among Sukuma farmers in three Tanzanian villages. It recounts the initiation practices, divination, healing rites and spirit possession, in which the author participated between 1995 and 1997. It proposes a new 'experiential' theory of magic and witchcraft, in critical dialogue with old and new anthropological literature. |
