Abstract
Several civil wars left Burundi poor and broken, but after a long line of conflict it is said that the African country is finally on its road to recovery. Burundi's destructive past heightened the need for redevelopment, and partially with the help of the international community the country has been addressing its problems. Due to the state the country is in, it is not surprising that it heavily relies on the aid given by multilateral and bilateral donors. To this day Burundi's national income largely depends on international funding and can count on multilateral as well as bilateral donors like the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and the United Nations, France, Switzerland, Belgium and the Netherlands ("Multiannual Strategic Plan 2008-2011" 5). This paper will focus on the lastly named country, Holland, and its activities in Burundi. |
