Abstract
The architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry is positioned at the core of most developmental drives of any nation. It is crucial to note that information and communication technology (ICT) in all its facets help drive development while creating enabling environment in the knowledge economy era. The assessment of the effectiveness and efficiency of architectural services may however be determined by the availability and state of ICT infrastructure available. Critical statements of the observed inadequacies on accessibility and speed of technology services are easily verbalized within the contexts of developing economies like Nigeria. However studies have shown that the optimization, expansion, maintenance and sustenance of ICT infrastructure are inevitable, if productivity and economic growth is to be apprehended. There is notable emphasis on physical infrastructure but this has to be complemented with what some authors refer to as Skills infrastructure. This paper examines the availability of ICT infrastructure in Architectural firms in Nigeria. A survey of architectural firms selected from six cities in Nigeria was embarked upon. Data was analysed and presented using descriptive statistical tools. It is advocated that the importance of creating vital action plans toward growth, improvement and sustenance of existing ICT infrastructure and its relevance to architectural practice and the construction industry at large will be rediscovered and executed in an appropriate manner. |
