Abstract
In 2006, China and the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo agreed on a trade deal, where the Chinese would invest in infrastructure in the DRC, in exchange for raw materials copper and cobalt. What is essential for this project is whether or not these types of infrastructure are sustainable for socio economic growth in the DRC, and if they will benefit the current government's program 'The Five Pillars of development'. This will be investigated through a construction-based theory and economic infrastructure theory together with the Sicomines agreement by Johanna Jansson, and analyzed through the perspective of short-term and long-term economic growth. In the analysis all of the above will be taken into account, and the research question will be answered: Is the Chinese investment in the infrastructure beneficial for the development of the DRC? |
