Abstract
The realization of *q in spoken Arabic of Chad and Sudan shows a great variety. A systematic comparison of vocabulary based on literature (Chad) and fieldwork (Sudan) reveals a standard realization [g] for both varieties, while the realization [k] is present in specific semantic fields in both countries For Sudan the most important sub-standard realizations is [@], while it is absent in Chad. In Chad the most important sub-standard is [x], while this realization is absent in Sudan. |
