Abstract
This project tries to look at the financial and operating performance of floriculture firms in Ethiopia. Further, it assesses the current export performance of the industry. In order to address the above broad objective, secondary data in the form of business reports, and financial statements were collected.Moreover, primary data using unstructured interviews were collected from the floriculture firms and Ethiopian horticulture producers and exporters association to support the secoundary data analysis.With the aforesaid data, different types of ratios such as profitablity, capital structure ,and liqudity ratios had developed to evaluate the performance of the firms under consideration. According to the findings presented in chapter four, floriculture industry is showing a remarkable export performance for the last five years. However, the unit prices of stem show a decline from period to period. In the same token, selected flower firms had more ability of paying their debt in the year 2007 and 2008 than previous years. Finally, searching new market, creating awareness in domestic market, training for grower, exporters and retailers are among the recommendations given |
